Srinagar: Member of Parliament Er Rashid on Friday led a protest under the banner of the Awami Ittihad Party (AIP) outside Srinagar’s civil secretariat, pressing the government to either restore the traditional darbar move or declare Srinagar as the capital.

During the demonstration, Er Rashid stressed the longstanding practice of the government’s seasonal relocation between Jammu and Srinagar, which has been disrupted, leaving residents uncertain about where to go for administrative assistance. He emphasized that numerous government files remain stalled due to the current setup, adding to the public’s frustrations.

Rashid also criticized Chief Minister Omar Abdullah, accusing him of failing to deliver on his promise to reinstate the darbar move. “Omar Abdullah assured the people that, upon forming the government, the darbar move would be restored, yet nothing has been done. This lack of clarity is making people suffer,” he stated.
