Srinagar: People’s Democratic Party (PDP) President Mehbooba Mufti on Tuesday urged the Centre to respect the clear mandate of the Jammu and Kashmir Assembly elections and refrain from interfering in the functioning of the incoming National Conference-Congress government. She extended her congratulations to the National Conference for their victory and assured that the PDP would serve as a constructive opposition.
“I congratulate the leadership of the National Conference for their spectacular win. I also want to commend the people of Jammu and Kashmir for voting for a stable government rather than a hung assembly. The people have faced numerous challenges, especially after August 5, 2019, and a strong, stable government is crucial for addressing those issues,” Mufti told reporters.
She emphasized that a decisive mandate prevents the possibility of political instability or misadventure. Mufti also cautioned the Centre, stating that any attempts to interfere in the new government’s affairs would lead to disastrous consequences.
“The Centre must learn from this verdict. If they attempt to meddle, it could result in a situation worse than what they have already experienced,” she added.
