SRINAGAR: In an effort to enhance voter participation in the upcoming General Elections to the Jammu and Kashmir Legislative Assembly, the Shopian District Administration has announced that polling staff will be rewarded for their efforts to increase voter turnout in areas with historically low participation.
This incentive program, according to an official order, is specifically designed to address and improve the historically low voter participation recorded in select polling stations during the recent Lok Sabha elections.
The order, as per the Srinagar-based news gathering agency Kashmir Dot Com, stipulates that ten Booth Level Officers (BLOs) and an equivalent number of Anganwadi Workers (AWWs) from selected polling stations in two assembly constituencies of Shopian District will be rewarded for their efforts to increase voter turnout.
The targeted polling stations were identified as having the lowest turnout in the previous elections.
The assembly constituencies involved are 36-Zainapora and 37-Shopian. In Constituency 36-Zainapora, the selected polling stations include Heff-B, Wachi-A, Ratnipora, Lawahind, and Maldeera. In Constituency 37-Shopian, the stations are Batapora Shopian-A, Habdipora, Shopian-H, Kanipora Shopian, and Saidpora Payeen.
As per the order, the polling staff shall be rewarded by the District Administration if they fully mobilize the electorate of the polling area to increase the turnout during the General Elections to the J&K Legislative Assembly-2024 by adopting fair and effective strategies.
According to the latest data, Assembly Constituency 36-Zainapora has a total of 106,867 electors, with 53,523 male and 53,342 female voters, across 129 polling stations. Assembly Constituency 37-Shopian has 98,933 electors, comprising 50,003 male and 48,925 female voters, and 122 polling stations. Combined, both constituencies have a total of 205,800 voters, with 103,526 males and 102,267 females, spread across 251 polling stations. (KDC)
