SRINAGAR: With the deadline for submitting nominations for the first phase of the Jammu and Kashmir Assembly elections approaching, Congress leaders will hold another crucial round of talks with the National Conference (NC) on finalizing a seat-sharing arrangement this afternoon.
Top sources told Kashmir Dot Com that senior Congress leaders including Salman Khurshid, KC Venugopal along with local leaders will discuss the seat sharing with the JKNC’s Farooq Abdullah, Omar Abdulla, Nasir Aslam Wani and Shami Oberoi at Abdullah’s Gupkar residence in Srinagar.
The meeting comes at a critical time, as tomorrow marks the last date for filing nominations for the initial phase of the much-anticipated elections in the Union Territory.
One of the leader wishing anonymity said “Both parties are aiming to strike a consensus that would strengthen their joint efforts against rival political forces.”
However, sources indicate that differences over key constituencies still persist, and both sides are under pressure to arrive at a workable formula before the clock runs out.
With the nomination deadline imminent, all eyes are on the outcome of this high-stakes meeting. (KDC)
