Srinagar, Aug 15, KDC: In a proactive move to counter the recent surge in terrorist activities, the Jammu and Kashmir Police has established 19 specialized counter-terror units across eight districts in the Jammu region.
Official sources told Srinagar based news gathering agency Kashmir Dot Com that the decision, announced on Wednesday evening, aims to bolster security in areas grappling with heightened terror threats.
“Each of these units will be headed by a Deputy Superintendent of Police (DySP) and will be stationed permanently in the designated districts,” they said, adding that “These units will be responsible for conducting counter-terrorism operations while simultaneously handling routine law and order matters.”
The districts identified for these specialized units are Udhampur, Kathua, Reasi, Doda, Kishtwar, Ramban, Rajouri, and Poonch. Specific police stations and posts within these districts have been assigned to each unit for effective coverage.
“These specialized units will primarily focus on combating terrorism in the Pir Panjal and Chenab mountain ranges, working closely with other security forces. The Jammu and Kashmir Police is confident that these units, equipped with the latest resources and training, will significantly contribute to maintaining peace and security in the region,” they added.
