Srinagar, August 11, KDC: Inspector General of Police, Kashmir zone, V.K Birdi said it was a matter of investigation as to how the civilians were so close to the terrorists. A civilian was killed and another injured in crossfire during an encounter between security forces and foreign terrorists in the Ahlan forest area of Kokernag, Anantnag district, on Saturday.
“The operation was launched after receiving credible input about the presence of foreign terrorists,” IGP Kashmir V. K. Birdi told reporters in Kokernag according to Kashmir Dot Com.
“During the observation of the terrorists’ movement, they initiated indiscriminate firing on security forces, resulting in critical injuries to two Army jawans who subsequently succumbed to their wounds. Another jawan was injured but is stable,” he said.
“Similarly, it is under investigation how some civilians came to be near the group of terrorists, leading to their being caught in the crossfire. One civilian succumbed to injuries while another is under medical treatment and appears to be stable,” Birdi said.
He added that an extensive search operation is underway while the group is believed to be 3-4 in number. (KDC)
