New Delhi, Feb 06: Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) President and former chief minister, Mehbooba Mufti on Monday said the eviction drive in Jammu and Kashmir has been launched to threaten people.

Addressing a press conference in New Delhi, Mehbooba Mufti said the use of bulldozers has made Kashmir worse than Afghanistan.

She said the eviction drive launched in Jammu & Kashmir is being used as a weapon to suppress the people. “We are not against the government’s move to retrieve the land from land grabbers, but livelihood of people should not get affected.”

She also said the drive is aimed at taking the shelters away from people, while the situation in Kashmir has got worse than Afghanistan and Palestine. “Elections have been happening in Kashmir since many years, but elections won’t solve the Kashmir issue. “We want the issue to be resolved based on the aspirations of the people of Jammu and Kashmir,” she said.

“I compare it with Palestine because the BJP govt is like an ‘East-India Company’ in Kashmir, in the entire country…Palestine is still better, their people talk, here it’s even worse, people’s houses are being demolished by bulldozer,” Mehbooba alleged. (KDC)
