Srinagar, Nov 4, KDC: The Srinagar Municipal Corporation (SMC) has ordered an immediate halt to all ongoing construction activities across 35 wards falling under its North/East, West and South zones, directing officials to verify building permissions and sanctioned plans before allowing any work to resume.
Separate circulars issued by the Enforcement Officers of the respective zones have directed Ward Officers to stop all ongoing construction activities within their jurisdictions, irrespective of whether property owners or parties concerned claim to possess valid building permissions, reported news agency Kashmir Dot Com.
As per the circulars, construction work will remain suspended until the relevant building permissions, sanctioned plans and other related documents are physically produced, verified and scrutinised by the concerned authorities.
The directions cover Ward Nos. 1 to 17 under the North/East zone, Ward Nos. 18 to 26 under the West zone and Ward Nos. 27 to 35 under the South zone.
The circulars refer to a review meeting convened by the Commissioner, SMC, regarding building permissions and ongoing construction activities, during which strict directions were issued to curb unauthorised constructions across the city.
The Ward Officers have also been directed to conduct field inspections in coordination with Building Inspectors and supervisory staff to identify unauthorised, unchecked or concealed construction activities.
The circulars make the concerned Ward Officers, Building Inspectors and Supervisory Staff accountable for any unauthorised construction detected within their respective jurisdictions. Officials found negligent or failing to enforce the directions will face departmental and disciplinary action. (KDC)
