Srinagar, Oct 10: INDIA bloc parties on Saturday held protest marches across Kashmir against alleged “vote chori”, raising concerns over the functioning of the Election Commission and alleged irregularities in the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls.
The demonstrations, part of the INDIA bloc’s nationwide protest campaign, were held in Srinagar and several district headquarters across the Valley.
In Srinagar, scores of workers from the Congress, National Conference and Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) gathered at the Congress headquarters on M.A. Road and raised slogans against the BJP-led Centre and Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar, demanding his resignation.
The protesters attempted to march towards the main road but were stopped by police, who did not allow them to move beyond the Congress office complex.
The protest continued for some time before the participants dispersed peacefully.
Similar demonstrations were reported from several district headquarters across the Valley.
