Srinagar, Oct 7, KDC: Jammu and Kashmir Police Service officer Mohammad Zaid Malik, a 2001-batch officer, has been posted as Superintendent of Police at the National Investigation Agency’s (NIA) Jammu Branch Office on deputation.
The Jammu and Kashmir Government relieved Malik on September 22 under Government Order No. 472-Home of 2026 to enable him to join the NIA as SP. He was serving as Commanding Officer of the 13th Battalion of the J&K Armed Police before proceeding on deputation.
According to the order, his deputation will initially be for four years and may be extended up to seven years, subject to the terms and conditions prescribed by the NIA and the Ministry of Home Affairs. The move followed a request from the NIA dated September 9 seeking his services.
Malik will be posted at the NIA’s Jammu branch office at Lower Majeen, Sidhra, which handles cases and investigations falling within the agency’s jurisdiction in the Jammu region.
A field-oriented police officer, Malik has held several operational and district-level assignments, including SP Operations in Baramulla, Anantnag and Bandipora. He has also served as SSP Awantipora and SSP Bandipora.
He took charge as SSP Baramulla in August 2024, serving in a sensitive border district where counter-infiltration operations, law-and-order duties and coordination with security forces form a major part of policing.
His induction into the NIA comes amid the agency’s continued coordination with J&K Police, the State Investigation Agency and other security agencies in investigations related to terrorism, terror financing and other scheduled offences.
Meanwhile, the J&K Home Department is expected to make arrangements to fill the vacancy created by his deputation from the armed police battalion. (KDC)
