Srinagar, Oct| 05: The National Service Scheme (NSS) unit of the National Institute of Technology (NIT) Srinagar organised a three-day series of cleanliness, environmental awareness and community outreach activities under the Swachhata Hi Seva 2026 campaign from October 1 to 3.

The programme witnessed participation from students, faculty members, staff, NSS and NCC volunteers and members of the campus community, with activities focusing on cleanliness, sustainability and civic responsibility.

As part of the programme, the NSS unit organised a poster painting competition on cleanliness and environmental awareness. The competition featured separate groups for teachers and staff and students, while children of professors also participated and presented their artwork.

The entries were evaluated by Dr. Nitika Kundan and Dr. Veningston K. The winners were awarded following the evaluation.

A “Best out of Waste” competition was also organised, encouraging participants to create innovative and useful products from discarded materials. The entries were judged by Dr. Dinesh Kumar Rajendran and Dr. Ashok Kumar.

At Harwan Park, volunteers carried out a cleanliness drive and collected litter and waste from the public park. The NSS unit also donated dustbins and brooms to Harwan Park to support continued cleanliness efforts.

The team subsequently visited Government Boys High School, Dara, where cleanliness activities and awareness interactions were conducted with local students. Dustbins and brooms were also donated to the school by the NSS unit of NIT Srinagar.

Dara village was formally adopted under the initiative to support continued activities related to cleanliness, hygiene and environmental welfare.
