Budgam, Sep 29, KDC: An encounter broke out between terrorists and security forces in the Palmaiden Mugpathri jungle area of Khansahib in central Kashmir’s Budgam district on Tuesday night, official sources said.
They said contact was established with the terrorists after security forces launched a cordon-and-search operation in the area following specific information about the presence of terrorists.
As the security forces intensified the search operation, the hiding terrorists opened fire, triggering an exchange of fire and leading to the encounter.
A tight cordon has been established around the suspected area, while additional security forces have been rushed to the spot to prevent the terrorists from escaping.
The operation was underway when reports last came in. Further details, including the number of terrorists trapped and any casualties, were not immediately available.
Security forces are continuing the operation in the forested area with heightened vigilance. (KDC)
