Udhampur, Sept 12: The Jammu and Kashmir Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) on Saturday produced a charge sheet against a former Patwari and another accused in a bribery case before the Special Judge, Anti-Corruption, Udhampur.
According to an ACB statement, the charge sheet was filed in FIR No. 01/2023 registered at ACB Police Station Udhampur under Section 7 of the Prevention of Corruption Act, 1988, as amended in 2018.
The accused have been identified as Darbinder Singh, the then Patwari of Patwar Halqa Rasli Gadheran, Basantgarh, Udhampur, and Nashar Ahmad, a resident of Basantgarh.
The case was registered following a written complaint by Bodh Raj, a resident of Rasli Gadheran, who alleged that he had applied for a fard of his land, which he intended to sell to another person.
According to the ACB, the complainant approached the then Patwari for issuance of the document, following which Singh allegedly demanded a bribe from him.
The complaint was subsequently verified by an officer of the ACB Udhampur-Reasi branch. The verification report found the allegations genuine and recommended registration of an FIR, the Bureau said.
“Accordingly, the instant case was registered and a successful trap was laid,” the ACB said in its statement.
During the trap operation, Singh and Nashar Ahmad, who was allegedly driving vehicle number JK02 BV-9048, were caught red-handed while allegedly demanding and accepting the bribe amount from the complainant, the Bureau said.
The ACB said that based on the evidence collected during the investigation, the commission of an offence under Section 7 of the Prevention of Corruption Act was established against the accused.
The charge sheet has now been presented before the competent court for further proceedings.
