Srinagar, Sep 8, KDC: Medical interns in Jammu and Kashmir have withdrawn their strike and returned to duty following an assurance from the Health and Medical Education Department that their demand for a higher stipend will be decided within a month.
The decision came after a meeting between Health and Medical Education Minister Sakeena Masood Itoo and a delegation representing interns from different medical colleges across the Union Territory.
The interns raised concerns over the existing stipend, citing their workload, working hours and responsibilities during their clinical training.
Itoo said the issue was already being examined by a committee constituted by the department and assured the delegation that its recommendations would be considered for an early decision.
The government and the interns agreed that the matter would be taken to a final decision within 30 days, based on the committee’s recommendations.
Following the assurance, the interns agreed to resume their duties, bringing the strike to an end and allowing regular hospital and patient-care services to continue without disruption. (KDC)
