Srinagar, Aug 31: National Institute of Technology (NIT) Srinagar has registered a significant improvement in the India Today Rankings 2026, securing 19th rank among the Top Technical Universities in India, compared to 22nd rank in 2025.

The three-position rise marks another milestone in the Institute’s ongoing journey towards academic and institutional excellence and reflects its continued progress in academics, research, innovation and overall institutional development.

The achievement has been welcomed by the NIT Srinagar administration, which attributed the improved national standing to the sustained and collective efforts of its faculty, students, researchers, non-teaching staff, alumni and other stakeholders.

Director, NIT Srinagar, Prof. Anurag Misra, congratulated the entire Institute fraternity on the achievement and said the improved ranking reflects the collective commitment of the Institute towards excellence.

He said NIT Srinagar would continue to focus on quality education, cutting-edge research, innovation and stronger industry-academia collaboration while further strengthening its academic ecosystem and national standing.

Registrar, Prof. Atikur Rehman, also congratulated the faculty, students, researchers and staff, saying the improved ranking is a recognition of the consistent efforts being made to strengthen the Institute’s academic and research environment.

He said the Institute remains committed to improving infrastructure, research, student support and academic quality to achieve greater milestones in the years ahead.

Chairman NIRF, NIT Srinagar, Prof. Babar Ahmad, termed the improved ranking a significant achievement for the Institute. He said NIT Srinagar’s rise from 22nd rank in 2025 to 19th rank in 2026 reflects its steady progress and growing academic standing.

Prof. Babar credited the achievement to the collective efforts of the faculty, students, researchers, non-teaching staff, alumni and other stakeholders, saying their contribution has helped strengthen NIT Srinagar’s position at the national level.

Nodal Officer, NIRF, Dr. Vijay Kumar, Assistant Professor, Department of Physics, said the improvement in the India Today Rankings reflects NIT Srinagar’s sustained efforts towards academic excellence, quality education, research and innovation.

Dr. Vijay also appreciated the dedicated efforts of Ajay Kumar, Junior Assistant, NBA/NIRF Office, NIT Srinagar, for his contribution and support in the Institute’s ranking-related work.

The latest ranking marks a steady upward trajectory for NIT Srinagar, with the Institute improving from 22nd position in 2025 to 19th position in 2026 among the Top Technical Universities in India.
