Srinagar, Aug 28, KDC: The Department of Students’ Welfare (DSW), University of Kashmir, on Friday organised a special social service camp at Sir Syed Gate to serve devotees visiting the Hazratbal Shrine on the occasion of Eid-e-Milad-un-Nabi (SAW).

Vice-Chancellor, University of Kashmir, Prof. Nilofer Khan, along with senior university officers and student volunteers, served namkeen tea, snacks, fresh drinking water and juice to the devotees during the camp.

Speaking on the occasion, Prof. Nilofer Khan said education should extend beyond classrooms and encourage students to serve society with compassion and empathy.

She said the university considers it a privilege to welcome and serve devotees visiting Hazratbal on the sacred occasion. She also encouraged more students to participate in social service and volunteering activities.

The Vice-Chancellor said the university had also made parking facilities available on its campus and extended support to facilitate the smooth movement of traffic on routes passing through the university.

Dean Students’ Welfare, Prof. Seema Singh, said the initiative provided an opportunity for students and university officials to come together in the spirit of service, adding that such activities help students develop a sense of social responsibility.

Cultural Officer Dr Shahid Ali Khan said the social service camp had become an important annual activity of the DSW, with student volunteers considering it a privilege to serve devotees.

Several university officers, including Chief Proctor Prof. Imtiyaz Ahmed Khan, participated in the camp. Student volunteers from Mehboob-ul-Aalam Boys’ Hostel and the DSW Youth Club also assisted in serving the devotees.

A special medical camp was simultaneously organised by the University Health Centre to provide basic medical assistance and first-aid support to devotees requiring immediate attention. (KDC)
