Srinagar, August 14: Superintendent of Police Divya D, IPS, has been awarded the prestigious Medal for Gallantry (GM) in recognition of her courage, leadership and distinguished service during her tenure with the Jammu and Kashmir Police.
Divya, who has served in several challenging assignments, made significant contributions to counter-terrorism operations, particularly during her tenure as SP Sopore, where she played a key role in a number of successful operations against terrorists.
Her tenure in Sopore saw security forces achieve major operational successes against several A++ category and other top-ranking terrorists, with her leadership and operational expertise contributing to efforts aimed at strengthening the security environment in north Kashmir.
Besides her operational responsibilities, Divya has also handled several sensitive and complex investigations during her career. As a former SP of the State Investigation Agency (SIA), she spearheaded the investigation into the decades-old rape and murder case of Kashmiri Pandit woman Sarla Bhatt.
The investigation involved an extensive review of old case records, examination of forensic material and sustained investigative efforts. The probe ultimately resulted in the preparation of a 737-page chargesheet against the alleged perpetrators, marking a significant breakthrough in the long-pending case.
Her career has thus combined operational leadership in counter-terrorism with investigative expertise in some of the most challenging cases handled by the J&K Police.
Despite her involvement in high-risk operations and sensitive investigations, Divya is also known for her humble, approachable and grounded demeanour, colleagues and those familiar with her professional work say.
The Gallantry Medal recognises her courage and dedication in the line of duty, as well as her wider contribution to counter-terrorism, criminal investigation and public service in Jammu and Kashmir.
