Srinagar, August 11, KDC: The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has suspended its Pulwama District President Er Syed Showkat Gayoor Andrabi from all organisational posts following the registration of a criminal case against him in connection with allegations of extortion, criminal intimidation and wrongful restraint. Kashmir Dot Com (KDC) was the first news outlet to report the registration of the FIR against the BJP functionary.
According to an order issued by the BJP, disciplinary proceedings have been initiated against Gayoor following the registration of the police case. The action was taken on the suggestion of the Chairman of the Disciplinary Committee, J&K BJP, Advocate Sunil Sethi, and in consultation with BJP J&K President and Rajya Sabha MP Sat Sharma (CA) and BJP General Secretary J&K Mohd Anwar Khan.
Pending the outcome of the internal disciplinary proceedings, Gayoor has been suspended from all organisational posts, including the post of BJP District President, Pulwama, with immediate effect, the order states.
The disciplinary action comes hours after Kashmir Dot Com reported that Police Station Pulwama registered FIR No. 0145/2026 against Gayoor following a written complaint submitted by Mohd Yaseen Ganie, a resident of Suthsoo B.K. Pora, Budgam. The FIR was registered on August 10 under Sections 126(2), 351(2), 308(2) and 308(3) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), 2023.
According to the complaint, Ganie was engaged in the extraction and transportation of soil for work being undertaken for Gurudwara Parbandhak, Barthana, and claimed that the activity was being carried out with permission from the competent authorities.
The complainant alleged that despite the work being authorised, Gayoor repeatedly interfered with the activity, obstructed the complainant and his drivers and workers, contacted him over the phone, issued threats and allegedly demanded illegal gratification to allow the work to continue.
The complaint alleges that Gayoor demanded ₹5 lakh from Ganie and conveyed that the work would not be allowed to continue unless the demand was met.
The complaint details how the situation escalated on August 8, 2026, at around 10:50 AM, when Gayoor allegedly arrived at the extraction site in Parigam, Pulwama.
According to the complainant, Gayoor deliberately parked his personal vehicle in front of the vehicles being used for transporting soil, thereby obstructing their movement. When drivers and workers confronted him and pointed out that the work was backed by valid permissions, he allegedly started recording videos on his mobile phone and accused them of carrying out “illegal work”.
The complainant further alleged that Gayoor threatened the drivers and workers and told them, in substance, that he would “book them under PSA”. He also allegedly threatened to use his position and influence to have the Public Safety Act invoked against the complainant if he did not comply with the alleged demands.
The complaint further alleges that the continued pressure and threats eventually resulted in payments being made to Gayoor.
According to the complainant, ₹50,000 was paid on November 21, 2025, and another ₹4,000 on November 22, 2025, taking the total alleged payment to ₹54,000. The complainant claimed that the payments were made under pressure and fear rather than voluntarily.
The complaint further alleges that even after receiving the money, Gayoor continued contacting and pressuring the complainant and allegedly made further demands for gratification.
Based on the complaint, Police Station Pulwama registered the case under provisions of the BNS relating to wrongful restraint, criminal intimidation and extortion-related offences. The FIR records Sections 126(2), 351(2), 308(2) and 308(3).
The police have taken up the investigation and assigned it to Assistant Sub-Inspector. (KDC)
