Srinagar, Aug 8, KDC: The 57-day Shri Amarnath Ji Yatra, which commenced on July 3, will remain suspended from both the traditional Pahalgam and Baltal routes with effect from August 9, authorities said on Saturday.
The annual pilgrimage will culminate with the traditional Chadi Mubarak ceremony on August 28, 2026.
The Yatra commenced simultaneously from the Chandanwari track in Anantnag district and Baltal route in Ganderbal district.
According to Divisional Commissioner Kashmir Anshul Garg, more than 4.8 lakh pilgrims have performed darshan at the Holy Shrine so far.
“However, due to the recent rains, a necessity for the repair and maintenance of the Yatra tracks at vulnerable stretches has been felt, which is being undertaken by Border Roads Organisation (BRO),” Garg said.
He said adverse weather conditions have also been predicted by the India Meteorological Department (IMD) over the next few days.
“Hence, the Yatra shall remain suspended from both routes with effect from 9th August, 2026,” the Divisional Commissioner said.
He added that Chadi Mubarak will proceed via the traditional Pahalgam route and mark the culmination of the 2026 Yatra on August 28.
Garg appealed to all pilgrims to adhere to advisories issued by the competent authorities from time to time in the interest of their safety and the smooth conduct of the pilgrimage. (KDC)
