Srinagar, Aug 6, KDC: The Mutahida Majlis-e-Ulema (MMU) Jammu and Kashmir on Thursday expressed strong concern over the alleged listing of pork products for sale on the online delivery platform Blinkit in Kashmir and urged the company to remove them immediately.
In a statement, the MMU said screenshots shared by members of the public indicated that pork products were being listed on the platform, describing the development as “outrageous” and “shocking.”
The religious body said that as the sale and consumption of pork is prohibited in Islam and Muslims are highly sensitive to the issue, it was important to ascertain how such products were allegedly made available for sale in the Valley.
The MMU called for a thorough inquiry into the matter by the concerned authorities and sought appropriate action against those responsible.
It also urged Blinkit to immediately remove the products from its inventory in Kashmir and ensure that pork products are neither stocked, advertised nor sold in the region.
“Businesses operating in Jammu and Kashmir must respect the religious and cultural sensitivities of the people and act responsibly,” the MMU said in the statement. (KDC)
