New Delhi, July 24: The National Testing Agency (NTA) has terminated the services of 47 officials as part of a sweeping overhaul aimed at strengthening the integrity of the country’s examination system following the controversy over alleged paper leaks and examination irregularities.
According to sources, legal and criminal proceedings will also be initiated against some of the officials, indicating that the action extends beyond administrative measures and forms part of a broader accountability exercise.
The move comes amid heightened scrutiny of the NTA after allegations of paper leaks and irregularities in national-level entrance examinations triggered widespread protests and demands for structural reforms.
Sources said the overhaul is intended to improve transparency, strengthen institutional accountability and restore public confidence in the examination process. The Centre is also examining changes to the NTA’s outsourcing system as part of wider reforms to prevent future lapses.
The action follows a series of reform measures initiated by the government in recent months, including proposals for stricter anti-paper leak legislation and institutional changes aimed at ensuring the credibility and fairness of high-stakes examinations conducted across the country.
