Srinagar, July 11, KDC: A delegation comprising representatives of the office of Baramulla Member of Parliament Er. Abdul Rashid Sheikh (Er. Rashid), the Awami Ittehad Party (AIP), the United Development Forum Beerwah, the trade and transport fraternity, and civil society members met the Chief Engineer of Beacon and urged the authorities to retain the proposed NH-701A (Magam–Surankote) Highway along the existing road alignment through Beerwah town.
According to a statement, the delegation, led by AIP General Secretary Nazir Ahmad Khan, submitted a detailed representation seeking that the proposed national highway pass through the existing alignment, particularly the Beerwah main market, instead of any alternate route.
During the meeting, the delegation also handed over documents relating to a public signature campaign conducted in Beerwah, stating that the campaign reflected widespread public support for retaining the existing alignment.
The representation said routing the highway through the existing road would improve connectivity while protecting local businesses and livelihoods, minimise displacement, and ensure greater public benefit.
The delegation urged the Beacon authorities to consider the public demand while finalising the Detailed Project Report (DPR) for the project and expressed hope that the concerns and aspirations of the people of Beerwah would be taken into account before the alignment is finalised. (KDC)
