Srinagar: BJP national president, Nitin Nabin is arriving here on two days maiden visit on July 6. He will address a public rally in Jammu on the same day in connection with the birth anniversary of founder president of Bharatiya Jan Sangh (BJS) Dr Syama Prasad Mookerjee and hold various meetings with party leadership next day on prevailing political situation in the UT besides taking complete feedback on functioning of the party.
The venue of the rally will be decided by the party in tomorrow’s Core Group meeting to be held at BJP Headquarters, party sources said.
They said that the party has decided to celebrate the birth anniversary of Dr Mookerjee at Jammu this year who attained martyrdom in J&K after his arrest at Lakhanpur to oppose the permit system in 1953. On July 6, fortnight long Syama Prasad Mookerjee Samiti Pakhwarda, which started on June 23 -the day on which the veteran Jan Sangh leader attained martyrdom in 1953, will also conclude with the party rally.
Sources said on July 7 the BJP national president will hold meeting with senior party leaders, Core Group members, office bearers and Legislators. He is likely to visit Udhampur on the same day to offer his condolences to former BJYM UT president and its ex national vice president, Pawan Khajuria whose mother expired recently. Sources said BJP national president is inclined to joining of Khajuria back in the party who resigned from it during 2024 Assembly elections after denial of party ticket. However, the same may not materialise during this visit as Nitin Nabin wants to hold further consultations with senior party functionaries from UT in this regard, they added.
Sources said that the venue for the rally will be finalised tomorrow as party president, Sat Sharma along with BJP general secretary (Org), Ashok Koul, MLA, Sham Lal Sharma and other senior leaders and party general secretaries, today visited the Manhas Ground at Paloura Top as a possible venue for the rally. However, party was of the opinion that due to scorching heat it will be difficult to hold public rally in the open so party is looking for a grand community hall, sources added.
They said some senior leaders have opined Grand Majestic Community Hall at Mishriwala which has a large space while others are suggesting some halls on Akhnoor road or Bohri. The final decision in this regard will be taken in BJP’s Core Group meeting at Party Headquarters tomorrow. But general opinion in the party is that rally should be held at Grand Majestic Community Hall, Mishriwala, they added.
