Srinagar, June 21: A retired police officer and his son lost their lives after their car skidded off the road and plunged into the River Jhelum in Uri area of north Kashmir’s Baramulla district on Sunday, reports reaching here said.
Officials said the accident occurred when an Alto K10 bearing registration number JK05Q-4298 met with an accident and fell into the river. The son, identified as Syed Imtiyaz Hussain (25), son of Syed Ahmad Shah and a resident of Banjra, Uri, died on the spot. His body was later retrieved from the river.
The father, Syed Ahmad Shah (68), son of Syed Alam Hussain Shah and a retired Sub-Inspector of Police, was rescued and shifted to Sub-District Hospital Uri, where he succumbed to his injuries.
Police and local residents immediately rushed to the spot and launched rescue efforts. Further details regarding the circumstances leading to the accident are awaited. (KDC)
