Srinagar, June 17, KDC: The Jammu and Kashmir administration has dismissed a senior employee of the Power Development Department (PDD) over his alleged involvement in terror-related activities, as part of its continuing action against government employees suspected of having links with militant networks.
Official sources said Mohd Shafi Malik, 51, a resident of Arwani in Bijbehara area of Anantnag district, was dismissed from service after verification of evidence and recommendations by the competent authorities.
Malik, a Class XII-pass Inspector posted at Hassanpora Tawella in Bijbehara, was dismissed over allegations of association with anti-national and terror-linked activities, sources said.
According to officials, the decision was taken after following the prescribed procedure and examining material purportedly linking the employee to militant networks. The administration has maintained a zero-tolerance policy towards terror-related activities and support structures, they said.
Malik has been named as an accused in multiple criminal cases registered at Police Station Bijbehara.
In FIR No. 76/2017, he is accused under various provisions related to murder, rioting, unlawful assembly, harbouring offenders and offences under the Arms Act.
He also figures in FIR No. 66/2018, registered under sections pertaining to rioting, damage to property, causing hurt to deter public servants and wrongful restraint.
Another case, FIR No. 78/2018, includes charges related to rioting, mischief causing damage, attempt to murder and wrongful restraint.
Officials said the allegations against him pertain to incidents involving violence, public disorder and alleged support to terror-related activities in the region.
The dismissal forms part of an ongoing drive launched by the Jammu and Kashmir administration under Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha to remove employees suspected of having terror links from government service.
In recent months, several government employees from departments including Education, Police, Forest and Health have been dismissed under similar provisions, with many terminations invoking Article 311(2)(c) of the Constitution, which permits dismissal without a full-fledged departmental inquiry in the interest of the security of the State.
