New Delhi, June 16, KDC: The National Investigation Agency (NIA) on Tuesday attached a residential property in Punjab’s Amritsar in connection with a transnational narco-terror network allegedly linked to the banned terror outfit Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT).
The attached property, identified as House No. 33, Holy City, Holy Enclave Phase-I, Amritsar, has been seized under Section 25(1) of the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act as “proceeds of terrorism” in the Salaya drug seizure case (RC-26/2020/NIA/DLI).
NIA in a statement according to news agency Kashmir Dot Com said, the house is registered in the name of the father of accused Ankush Kapoor, who has been identified as a key India-based operative of a narco-terror syndicate with operations spanning several countries, including Italy, Australia, Iran, Thailand, the UAE and Pakistan.
Investigations revealed that Kapoor maintained links with a Dubai-based accused associated with LeT and played a crucial role in the smuggling, transportation, storage and distribution of narcotics. He is also accused of laundering terror funds to operatives in different countries.
The agency said proceeds generated through drug trafficking were allegedly used to finance and support terrorist activities in India through an extensive and sophisticated financial network.
Kapoor, arrested last year, has been chargesheeted on charges related to terror funding, criminal conspiracy and supporting unlawful and terrorist activities, in addition to offences under the NDPS Act and the IPC.
So far, the NIA has chargesheeted 26 accused in the case, and further investigation is underway.
The latest attachment is part of the agency’s continued efforts to dismantle the financial and logistical infrastructure supporting terrorism in India. (KDC)
