Srinagar, June 7, KDC: Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) president and former Chief Minister of Jammu and Kashmir Mehbooba Mufti on Sunday criticized the jailing of PDP leader Talib Chowdhary, describing it as unfortunate and demanding his immediate release.
In a statement posted on social media platform X, Mehbooba said Chowdhary was being punished for raising his voice on behalf of the poor and marginalized sections of society, particularly members of the tribal community.
“Treating him like a criminal simply for taking out a peaceful march against an arbitrary demolition drive in Sidhra sends a chilling negative message to Gujjar-Bakerwals who have always stood by India,” she said.
The PDP chief termed the action against Chowdhary as unjustified and expressed concern over its potential impact on the sentiments of the tribal community.
Mehbooba also tagged Jammu and Kashmir Police and Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha in her post, urging the authorities to reconsider the action taken against the PDP leader.
“Talib must be released,” she said.
Chowdhary was reportedly detained following a protest march against an alleged demolition drive in the Sidhra area of Jammu. The PDP has maintained that the protest was peaceful and aimed at highlighting the concerns of affected residents. (KDC)
