Srinagar, June 3: The National Conference (NC) has decided to step up its campaign for the restoration of Jammu and Kashmir’s statehood, with its legislators set to visit New Delhi during the forthcoming Monsoon Session of Parliament to seek broader political support for the demand.
The decision was taken at a meeting of NC legislators and senior party leaders, where discussions centred on the prevailing political situation and the party’s future course of action on issues concerning Jammu and Kashmir.
Speaking to reporters after the meeting, NC Chief Spokesperson Tanvir Sadiq said the party would use the Parliament session as an opportunity to engage with national political stakeholders and highlight the aspirations of the people of Jammu and Kashmir.
He said the restoration of statehood and constitutional safeguards remains a key objective for the party and that NC leaders would continue to pursue the matter through democratic and constitutional channels.
According to Sadiq, the delegation of legislators plans to meet leaders from different political parties in New Delhi and seek their support for the restoration of Jammu and Kashmir’s democratic institutions and constitutional rights.
The NC leadership maintained that the people of Jammu and Kashmir have been consistently demanding the return of full statehood and that the party remains committed to representing these aspirations at every available forum.
The proposed outreach in the national capital is part of the party’s broader political effort to keep the issue of statehood at the centre of public and political discourse, the leaders said.
