Anantnag, May 09: In a first-of-its-kind action in Jammu and Kashmir, Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Anantnag, Amod Ashok Nagpure (IPS), has ordered the auction of a vehicle used in narcotics trafficking under provisions of the NDPS Act.
Officials said the vehicle bearing registration number DL8CR0936 was seized in connection with a narcotics case registered in the district. After obtaining necessary legal sanction from the competent court under Section 52-A of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act, the vehicle has now been ordered for disposal through auction.
Police said the move reflects the department’s firm resolve to dismantle the infrastructure supporting the drug trade and to prevent the reuse of assets involved in narcotics trafficking.
Describing the step as a significant crackdown on drug networks, officials said Anantnag Police is committed to a zero-tolerance policy against drug menace and will continue stringent legal action against those involved in drug peddling and trafficking.
The action is being seen as a landmark initiative in the Union Territory’s fight against narcotics-related crimes. (KDC)
