Srinagar, May 04: Under the ongoing “Nasha Mukt Jammu & Kashmir Abhiyaan,” Srinagar Police on Monday said it demolished an “illegal residential structure” belonging to a “habitual drug peddler” in the Palpora Noorbagh area.
According to a statement issued by Srinagar Police, the accused — “Mohammad Irfan Sheikh @ Iff S/o Mohammad Ashraf Sheikh R/o Pamposh Colony, Palpora Noorbagh” — is a “known narcotics offender” allegedly involved in multiple cases under the NDPS Act. The cases cited include FIR No. 134/2024 under sections “8/21, 29 NDPS Act of PS Safakadal” and FIR No. 48/2025 under sections “8/21 NDPS Act of PS Sangam.”
Police said that “investigation and verification” revealed the structure had been “raised illegally on land acquired and developed using proceeds generated from narcotics trafficking,” adding that the construction was carried out “without lawful authority” and in “clear violation of revenue laws.”
The statement further alleged that “close associates and family members of the accused are also reportedly involved in multiple NDPS cases across the Valley,” indicating what it described as a “wider network linked to drug peddling activities.”
Srinagar Police said the demolition was carried out “on credible inputs” and “after due legal process,” in coordination with concerned authorities and “strictly in accordance with law” following completion of “all codal formalities.”
Calling the move a “clear and unequivocal message,” the police stated that “properties created from proceeds of drug trafficking will not be spared” and those involved in the narcotics trade will face “strict and visible consequences.”
Reiterating its “zero-tolerance policy” against drug trafficking, Srinagar Police said it remains committed to “dismantling the entire ecosystem of narcotics, including financial and logistical networks,” and urged citizens to “come forward and support this collective fight” against drugs.
