Srinagar, Apr 1, KDC: Counter Intelligence Kashmir (CIK) on Tuesday said that it has filed a chargesheet against two accused persons in a case related to misuse of social media platforms for spreading anti-national content.
According to a press release issued by CIK, a chargesheet (challan) was produced before the Court of the Special Judge designated under the NIA Act, Srinagar, against Dr. Umer Farooq Bhat, son of Farooq Ahmad Bhat, and his wife Shahzada Akther, both residents of Bugam, Kulgam.
“The case pertains to FIR No. 05/2025 registered at Police Station CIK Srinagar under Sections 152, 62(2) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) and Sections 13, 38, 39 of the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act,” the statement said.
CIK said the case was registered on the basis of credible inputs indicating that Shahzada Akther, in conspiracy with members of the proscribed organisation Dukhtaran-e-Millat and in active connivance with her husband, was involved in creating and disseminating false and fabricated narratives about the situation in Kashmir.
“Investigation revealed that the accused were misusing social media platforms, including encrypted messaging applications, to manipulate facts and spread misleading information aimed at promoting secessionist sentiments and fostering disaffection against the Union of India,” the statement said.
It further stated that the accused were also involved in circulating content intended to create disharmony among religious groups, with the objective of provoking and radicalising youth, inciting violence, and disturbing public order.
“Such activities posed a serious threat to peace, tranquillity, and the sovereignty and integrity of the nation,” the statement added.
CIK said that upon completion of investigation, sufficient evidence was gathered establishing the involvement of both accused persons in the commission of offences under relevant provisions of BNS and the UA(P) Act.
“Accordingly, the chargesheet has been filed before the competent court for judicial determination,” the statement said.
Reiterating its commitment, CIK said strict action will continue against individuals and networks involved in activities that threaten the sovereignty, unity and integrity of the country. (KDC)
