Chandigarh, Mar 15: Punjab Police on Sunday said it has arrested six persons allegedly involved in a cross-border arms and drug smuggling module with links to Pakistan-based smugglers.
Police in Amritsar recovered six sophisticated pistols, 60 live cartridges and 3.51 kg of heroin from the accused, Director General of Police Gaurav Yadav said.
Preliminary investigation revealed that the accused were facilitating the supply of weapons and narcotics near the Indo-Pak border in coordination with Pakistan-based smugglers, the DGP said in a post on X.
He added that the accused were operating under the directions of a cross-border handler, indicating the presence of a larger organised smuggling network.
Further investigation is underway to establish forward and backward linkages and dismantle the entire network, he said. (Agencies)
