Jammu, Feb 16, KDC: In a significant step towards strengthening scientific investigation practices, the maiden edition of the Fingerprint Bureau’s Magazine of Jammu & Kashmir Police was formally released by Inspector General of Police (Crime), Sujit Kumar Singh, at a function held at the Crime Branch Headquarters Jammu.

The publication, encompassing detailed Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and operational guidelines for investigating officers and field staff, aims to enhance the quality of investigations and improve conviction rates in compliance with Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) guidelines.

The event was organized under the supervision of Senior Superintendent of Police, Fingerprint Bureau, Mohd Yousuf, and was attended by the Director Prosecution and all Senior Superintendents of Police of Crime Branch from Jammu and Kashmir.

Addressing the gathering, IGP Crime emphasized strict adherence to SOPs relating to the National Automated Fingerprint Identification System (NAFIS), Measurement Collection Units (MCUs), and overall Fingerprint Bureau operations. He highlighted that scientific evidence and digital fingerprint identification play a pivotal role in ensuring accuracy, transparency, and efficiency in criminal investigations, besides strengthening inter-state crime tracking.

The magazine provides comprehensive guidance on procedures ranging from chance fingerprint lifting at crime scenes to submission of data into NAFIS. It also elaborates on the implementation of the Crime and Criminal Tracking Network’s Measurement Collection Units under the CrPIS system, developed by the National Crime Records Bureau under the aegis of the MHA.

The publication is expected to serve as a professional reference document for investigators and forensic personnel, detailing updated SOPs, crime scene management protocols, fingerprint collection standards, and coordination mechanisms with national databases.

Reaffirming its commitment to modernization and capacity building, Jammu & Kashmir Police reiterated its resolve to adopt technology-driven, evidence-based investigation methods to ensure higher standards of professionalism and improved conviction outcomes. (KDC)
