Jammu, Feb 08, KDC: In a major breakthrough in a “digital arrest” cyber fraud case, Police Station CICE (Crime Branch) Jammu successfully saved ₹39.90 lakh out of ₹52.90 lakh allegedly siphoned off from a retired Air Force officer, officials said.
According to police, an online complaint was received on February 6, 2026, from the victim who reported being kept under “digital arrest” for nine days by cyber fraudsters and coerced into transferring ₹52,90,000.
Acting promptly, the police launched an investigation, traced beneficiary bank accounts and followed the money trail without delay. Within three hours of receiving the complaint, ₹11.90 lakh was traced to a suspected Yes Bank account in Jodhpur and immediately put on hold by invoking the newly issued Standard Operating Procedure (SOP).
Additionally, a lien of ₹4.90 lakh was marked in subsequent linked accounts. Continued coordination with the concerned banks led to the tracing of another ₹28 lakh in a second layer of suspected accounts.
With these efforts, a total of ₹39,90,482 has been successfully secured. The recovered amount will be remitted to the complainant’s account through the competent court shortly, providing significant relief to the victim and his family.
Police said the case marks the first operational use of the newly issued SOP by PS CICE Jammu in a live financial fraud probe, demonstrating its effectiveness in cybercrime investigations.
The operation was led by DySP Albeena Malik (JKPS), SHO PS CICE Jammu, along with her team comprising Inspector Pradeep Singh and HC Rakesh Choudhary, under the overall supervision of SSP CICE J&K. (KDC)
