Srinagar, Jan 22: The People’s Democratic Party (PDP) on Thursday raised serious concerns over the recently announced results of the Jammu and Kashmir Judicial Service examination, alleging a glaring regional imbalance and seeking an independent enquiry into the selection process.
PDP spokesperson Syed Tajamul said that out of 124 candidates selected, only 13 belong to the Kashmir Division, which, he said, raises serious questions about fairness and merit. He pointed out that nearly 600 candidates from Kashmir had qualified the mains examination, yet only a small fraction found a place in the final list.
Terming the outcome “deeply disturbing,” Syed Tajamul said such a disproportionate representation cannot be brushed aside as a coincidence.“If merit alone was the guiding principle, such a stark disparity would not have emerged,”he said, adding that the results have shaken the confidence of educated youth in the recruitment system.
The PDP spokesperson held the present government responsible for what he described as the erosion of transparency in constitutional institutions, and called for a thorough scrutiny of the role of the Public Service Commission (PSC) in the selection process.
He also expressed concern over the silence of political parties that routinely allege discrimination, as well as the silence of nearly 60 Muslim MLAs, stating that such selective outrage has only deepened public mistrust.
Syed Tajamul demanded that the existing selection list be quashed and an independent, high-level enquiry be ordered to examine whether any procedural irregularities or foul play occurred.
“The credibility of institutions and the future of our youth cannot be compromised. The government must come clean,” he said. (KDC)
