Ganderbal, Jan 05, KDC: Ganderbal Police on Monday initiated preventive action against the unauthorized use of VPN services in the district, citing violation of prohibitory orders issued by the District Magistrate.
During a jurisdiction-wide verification drive conducted in the areas of Police Station Ganderbal and Police Station Kangan (including Kangan sub-division), 11 individuals were found using VPN services illegally, police said.
Acting on the findings, the police produced istigasa (preventive case submissions) before the concerned Executive Magistrates under Sections 126 and 170 of the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita (BNSS), 2023. Following a perusal of submissions, the magistrates ordered the individuals to be bound down under Section 126 BNSS, directing them to maintain good behaviour, the police statement added.
No terror links or adverse background were found during the verification, and no FIR has been registered in the matter. The action taken is strictly preventive in nature, police clarified.
Ganderbal Police warned that any violation of lawful orders will invite strict legal action and urged the public to cooperate with law-enforcement agencies to maintain peace, public safety and cyber security.
“Ganderbal Police remains committed to ensuring safety and harmony in the district,” the statement concluded. (KDC)
