Anantnag, Jan 01, KDC: Anantnag Police on Thursday initiated legal action against five (05) individuals for using unauthorized Virtual Private Network (VPN) services, in violation of prohibitory orders issued by the District Magistrate, Anantnag.

Officials said the violators were identified during routine digital monitoring by the police, following which security proceedings were launched for non-compliance with lawful orders currently in force in the district.

It is pertinent to mention that on 27 December 2025, the District Magistrate, Anantnag, had issued prohibitory directives banning unauthorized VPN usage to prevent the misuse of online platforms and encrypted applications, citing concerns that such tools could pose challenges to public safety and security.

In a statement, the police spokesperson said that the action is part of ongoing efforts to enforce legal restrictions on digital platforms and ensure adherence to government orders.

Anantnag Police reiterated their commitment to strict enforcement of lawful measures, stating that all necessary steps will continue to be taken to prevent the misuse of digital tools in the interest of maintaining public order and security. (KDC)
