Srinagar, Dec 26: A CBI prosecutor who was critically injured in a road accident near Banihal on Thursday succumbed to his injuries on Friday morning, sparking a wave of grief across the legal fraternity and his native area of Bijbehara in south Kashmir’s Anantnag district.
Officials said the accident took place at around 3:00 pm on Thursday when an Alto car, driven by Advocate Sheikh Adil Nabi, was travelling from Banihal towards the Kashmir Valley. The car was hit by a Scorpio vehicle, bearing registration number JK01BB-2625, near the railway crossing in Banihal.
Sheikh Adil Nabi, son of Ghulam Nabi Sheikh and a resident of Bijbehara, Anantnag, sustained critical injuries in the collision. He was immediately rushed to Sub-District Hospital (SDH) Banihal, where he received first aid before being referred to Government Medical College (GMC) Anantnag. Later, he was shifted to SKIMS Soura in Srinagar for advanced treatment, where he breathed his last , they said.
Around 35 years of age, Sheikh Adil had recently cleared the UPSC examination and had joined as a Public Prosecutor with the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) in Chandigarh, marking the start of a promising career at the national level.
The fatal collision involved a Scorpio vehicle (JK01BB-2625), officials confirmed, though further details on the sequence of the crash and liabilities are being probed by the concerned authorities.
Sheikh Adil was widely remembered as a brilliant, humble and dedicated legal professional known for his sharp acumen and strong work ethic. His sudden demise has left colleagues, friends and residents of his hometown in deep mourning.
Several members of the legal fraternity expressed sorrow, describing his death as an “irreparable loss” to the prosecution community. Social media platforms were also flooded with condolence messages, with many highlighting his integrity, professionalism and compassionate personality.
Meanwhile, local authorities have taken cognizance of the accident, and investigations are underway to ascertain the exact circumstances leading to the crash.
