Srinagar, Dec 24 (KDC): The Srinagar Municipal Corporation (SMC) on Wednesday retrieved 14 illegally encroached shops at the iconic Hari Singh High Street after an enforcement operation against unauthorised occupation.
An official told news agency Kashmir Dot Com that the shops had been encroached upon by a group of individuals who installed metal shutters to take possession of the premises without legal allotment or authorisation.
The anti-encroachment drive was carried out today by a joint team comprising the SMC Enforcement Wing, Estates Department, and the concerned Ward officials, which acted collectively to restore the properties to municipal custody, he said.
During the operation, the team removed and seized the illegally installed shutters, asserting that the takeover of the shops was unlawful. The corporation said the action was part of its ongoing efforts to reclaim public assets and prevent unauthorised occupation of commercial spaces in the city.
Officials reiterated that encroachment on municipal properties will invite strict action, and appealed to the public to cooperate with the administration in safeguarding civic assets. (KDC)
