Srinagar, Dec 21, KDC: Reacting to Chief Minister Omar Abdullah’s recent remarks acknowledging empowerment by the Central Government, BJP leader Er Sahil Bashir Bhat said the statement amounts to a public admission of the strong and enabling governance of the Centre led by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, while simultaneously exposing the Chief Minister’s own governance failures.
In a statement issued here, Er Sahil Bashir Bhat said that if the Chief Minister himself admits that his administration functions effectively due to the authority, resources and policy framework provided by the Modi-led Central Government, it raises serious questions about why his government has failed to deliver on promises made to the people of Jammu and Kashmir.
He said the admission clearly establishes that administrative stability, security, financial assistance and governance frameworks have been ensured by the Centre, leaving no room for excuses regarding lack of authority or support. “Despite this empowerment, the Omar Abdullah-led government has chosen non-performance, selective governance and political convenience over public welfare,” the statement read.
The BJP leader said the contradiction in the Chief Minister’s narrative of crediting the Centre for empowerment while continuing to shift blame and evade accountability undermines democratic responsibility and insults the public mandate. He added that the long-projected narrative of victimhood stands demolished by the Chief Minister’s own words.
According to the statement, the people of Jammu and Kashmir were promised transparent governance, employment opportunities, inclusive development and a responsive administration, but instead have witnessed political posturing and self-glorification. “The lack of delivery is not due to lack of power, but lack of intent and political will,” it said.
The statement further asserted that a government empowered by the Centre but unwilling to perform cannot claim to be a victim of circumstances. “If the Centre has empowered the elected leadership, the responsibility to deliver lies squarely with that leadership,” the BJP leader said.
Reiterating the party’s stance, the statement said the Bharatiya Janata Party believes in performance-based politics where empowerment must translate into delivery on the ground. “If Omar Abdullah chooses not to act, the responsibility for failure rests entirely with him and his party,” it added.
