Srinagar, Dec 13, KDC: Retired erstwhile Jammu and Kashmir cadre IAS officer Raj Kumar Goyal has been appointed as the Chief Information Commissioner (CIC) of India, bringing a key constitutional transparency body back to full strength after years of vacancies.
Goyal, a 1990-batch IAS officer, will be sworn in on December 15 at 11 am, with President Droupadi Murmu administering the oath of office. After assuming charge, Goyal will also administer the oath to eight newly appointed Information Commissioners, officials said.
With these appointments, the 11-member Central Information Commission has attained its full sanctioned strength for the first time in the last seven years. The Commission had remained headless since September and was functioning with only two Information Commissioners, Anandi Ramalingam and Vinod Kumar Tiwari, leading to concerns over pendency and delays in RTI adjudication.
