Srinagar, Dec 03: Chief Minister Omar Abdullah on Wednesday said his government has made a sincere and detailed effort to rationalize Jammu and Kashmir’s reservation policy, fulfilling the promise made to the people of the Union Territory.
Speaking to reporters after chairing a cabinet meeting in Jammu, Omar said the cabinet held extensive discussions to ensure that no section faces injustice during the policy revision.
“Effort was made to rationalize the reservation in the way we had promised to the people. Effort was also made to ensure that there should be no injustice to anyone,” the Chief Minister said.
Without naming any political group, Omar said that those who earlier accused the government of “doing nothing on reservation” are now threatening agitation once the changes move ahead.
“It is easy to do politics on the issue. Those who were taunting us, saying we had done nothing on reservation, are now saying if you do this, we will launch an agitation,” he said.
The CM said the government has conducted a comprehensive review, noting that the matter was examined multiple times at various levels.
“We couldn’t have carried out a more detailed exercise than this. Every issue was looked into. The issue was discussed more than once. This is the third or fourth time that the issue has come before the cabinet. The cabinet sub-committee took six months to complete the exercise,” he said.
Omar Abdullah, however, declined to share the cabinet’s final decision on the reservation issue.
“The matter will now go to the LG. I wouldn’t like to disclose more on it,” he added. (KDC)
