Srinagar, Nov 14, KDC: Member of Parliament Aga Syed Ruhullah on Monday strongly criticized the demolition of homes in Kashmir following the recent terror attack, calling the move “an act of cruelty” that punishes innocent families instead of delivering justice.
In a statement posted on Facebook, the Srinagar MP said that destroying houses of people who have not been proven guilty or linked to the incident through any legal process amounts to inflicting “collective suffering.”
“Demolishing a home won’t deliver ‘punishment’; it only inflicts collective suffering,” he wrote. “Making an entire family homeless during the harsh winter of Kashmir without evidence, court order or any law linking them to the incident is an act of cruelty.”
Ruhullah said such actions fail to honour the memory of the innocent people killed in the terror attack and warned that measures like mass detentions, coercive interrogations, and demolitions carried out without due process would push Kashmir “back by decades.”
He urged authorities to focus on lawful investigations and ensure that the “actual perpetrators” are held accountable. “It doesn’t bring justice… and it doesn’t achieve the ends of justice,” he said, reiterating that peace cannot be restored through “punitive measures against entire families who have not been proven guilty.” (KDC)
