Srinagar, Nov 12, KDC: Police in Sopore, Shopian, and Pulwama have issued strong advisories urging citizens and social media group administrators to act responsibly while using online platforms. The advisories come amid increasing instances of provocative and insensitive content being circulated on social media.
In its advisory, Sopore Police cautioned users and WhatsApp group admins against posting or forwarding any anti-national, communal, or sectarian content. “Any such post, comment, or forward will attract the strictest legal action under relevant laws,” the police warned. Citizens have been urged to refrain from sharing unverified information or engaging with accounts promoting hate or misinformation.
Similarly, Shopian Police called for restraint and sensitivity following a recent tragic incident at the Red Fort, noting that some users had posted or reacted insensitively online. The police described such behaviour as “anti-national and deeply insensitive,” advising the public not to engage with or share divisive or mocking content. The advisory also warned against interacting with accounts operating from across the border attempting to exploit the situation.
Extending the message of caution, Pulwama Police also appealed to social media users to act responsibly, emphasizing that online platforms should be used to promote harmony, not hostility. The police reiterated that any attempt to spread hate, misinformation, or separatist propaganda would be met with firm legal action.
Authorities have urged citizens across all districts to use social media as a means of constructive communication and to report any content that could disturb peace or public order. (KDC)
