Srinagar, Nov 6, KDC: The Pulwama District Information Office has launched a verification drive for media persons to curb misuse of media identity and ensure only bona fide journalists operate in the district.
In a circular issued on Thursday, a copy of which lies with news agency Kashmir Dot Com (KDC), the District Information Officer (DIO) Pulwama directed all media persons to submit their credentials within seven days as per a checklist annexed with the order. The move follows directions from the Joint Director Information, Kashmir, regarding vigilance, monitoring, and reporting of impersonation in journalism.
The checklist mandates submission of Aadhaar or PAN card, appointment letter from the media organisation, bank or salary statement for the last six months, academic qualification certificates, and links to social media handles of digital or news portals.
“The exercise is aimed at ensuring the sanctity of journalism and creating a transparent system for bona fide media professionals,” the circular reads.
Earlier, officials said the Lieutenant Governor had categorically directed Deputy Commissioners and Senior Superintendents of Police to take strict action against those misusing the name of journalism.
“He was clear that such elements must face the law and be weeded out from the system,” a senior official present in the meeting had told Kashmir Dot Com (KDC).
Officials said the step marks a coordinated effort to professionalise local journalism and prevent impersonation or misuse of press identity across Jammu and Kashmir. (KDC)
