Srinagar, Oct 31, KDC: The Jammu and Kashmir Assembly witnessed a brief commotion on Thursday after a video surfaced online alleging that MLA Javid Mirchal was browsing social media during the House proceedings.
Denying the allegation, Mirchal termed the claim “baseless and misleading,” clarifying that he was reviewing official documents sent to legislators in digital format. “The video was shared out of context. I was checking official business papers, not social media,” he said, accusing the portal of trying to tarnish his image.
Senior MLA Nazir Gurezi called for a privilege motion against the news portal, stating that such actions “undermine the dignity of the legislature.” Members of the National Conference also joined the protest, demanding strict action against those responsible for spreading misinformation.
Speaker Abdul Rahim Rather assured the House that the issue would be examined and that “appropriate action” would be taken against the guilty party. (KDC)
