Srinagar, Oct 29, KDC: Jammu and Kashmir Peoples Conference chief Sajad Gani Lone on Wednesday said that incarcerated leader Shabir Ahmad Shah should be recognized as a political figure, not a militant, while urging the Legislative Assembly to take note of his deteriorating health condition.
Speaking during the Zero Hour session of the House, Lone supported the concern earlier raised by CPI(M) MLA M.Y. Tarigami, highlighting that Shah’s health had worsened to the point where he was unable to manage daily activities, reported news agency Kashmir Dot Com.
“Shabir Shah was not a militant. He was a political leader. Imagine if any one of us were unable to stand without support — how would our families respond?” Lone said.
Acknowledging that the Home Department was beyond the jurisdiction of the Jammu and Kashmir government, Lone nonetheless urged the Assembly to express concern over the condition of prisoners lodged in jails outside the Union Territory. “I hope this Assembly will take note of it,” he added. (KDC)
