Srinagar Oct 22, KDC: Out of 58 resolutions submitted by legislators for consideration in the upcoming Jammu and Kashmir Legislative Assembly session, only seven were admitted, while the rest including a resolution by the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) seeking transfer of Waqf custodianship to the Mirwaiz-led Muttahida Majlis-e-Ulama (MMU) were dropped during the ballot process.
The shortlisting of resolutions was done through the standard ballot procedure prescribed under Assembly rules, allowing only a select number of private members’ resolutions to be taken up for discussion in each session.
The PDP’s resolution, which proposed handing over the management of the Jammu and Kashmir Waqf Board to the traditional religious authority led by Mirwaiz Umar Farooq, failed to make it past the ballot stage.
Meanwhile, the Jammu and Kashmir Legislative Assembly is set to begin its nine-day Autumn Session tomorrow (Thursday) in Srinagar.
The Autumn Session, which will be the second sitting since the restoration of the J&K Legislative Assembly, will begin with obituary references on the opening day, followed by six working days of legislative business.
The Business Advisory Committee has already finalized the schedule, with October 28 reserved for private members’ business. (KDC)
