SRINAGAR, Oct 20, KDC: Parvez Rasool, the trailblazing all-rounder from Jammu and Kashmir, has announced his retirement from all formats of cricket after a distinguished 17-year career. Rasool, 36, hails from Bijbehara and has been a pathbreaker for cricket in the region, becoming the first player from Jammu and Kashmir to represent India internationally and the first from the state to feature in the Indian Premier League (IPL).
Over his First-Class career, Rasool claimed 352 wickets and scored 5,648 runs, consistently shining at the domestic level. Despite a brief international stint—playing only one ODI and one T20I—he left an indelible mark in Indian domestic cricket, winning the Lala Amarnath Trophy for the best all-rounder in the Ranji Trophy twice, in 2013/14 and 2017/18.
Reflecting on his journey, Rasool said, “When we started playing, not many took Jammu and Kashmir cricket seriously. But we went on to beat some of the big teams and also fare well in the Ranji Trophy and other BCCI-affiliated tournaments. I led the team for a fairly long period, and it gives me immense satisfaction to have contributed a bit to the team’s success story.”
Rasool’s retirement marks the end of an era for Jammu and Kashmir cricket, leaving behind a legacy that will inspire future generations from the region to dream big on the national and international stage. (KDC)
