Srinagar, Oct 12: PDP president Mehbooba Mufti on Sunday slammed the BJP-led central government, accusing it of hypocrisy for “embracing Taliban-ruled Afghanistan while targeting Muslims in India.”
Her remarks coincided with the visit of Afghan Foreign Minister Amir Khan Muttaqi to India, as the country seeks to strengthen ties with Afghanistan.
In a post on X, Mehbooba criticized the BJP’s repeated targeting of India’s Muslim population through narratives like “Love Jihad,” “Land Jihad,” “Vote Jihad,” and “Cow Jihad.” She said, “While India extends aid and educational scholarships to Afghan students, it marginalises its own Muslim citizens who have contributed to the nation’s independence, identity, and progress.”
She also pointed to the withdrawal of scholarships for Muslim students and the closure of madrasas as examples of what she called the party’s “internal hypocrisy.”
While acknowledging the strategic importance of international relationships, Mehbooba emphasized that national stability and harmony depend on fostering trust, equality, and respect within India’s own borders, particularly for minority communities.
Taking a swipe at Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, she added cheekily, “Hope Bulldozer Baba is listening!”.
